About me

I am a very successful chess coach that has taught many chess students from everywhere in the world!

Lessons include:
1. Fast improvement through my personal investment in you
2. Work with my GM friends
3. Friendly and interactive lessons

I want to be the chess coach that I NEVER had. If I were teaching myself when I was starting out I would surely end up in a better place than what I experimented with over the years.

If the student shows an interest in long-term coaching with me I will even collaborate with my strong GM/IM titled friends to help you achieve your goals! No extra payment required for them!

Playing experience

I have been playing rated chess for about 12 years in my local chess club. I went from being one of the lowest rated members of the club to being one of the highest rated.

Teaching experience

I have been teaching students chess for more than a decade. I accept students of all ages and skills.

My specialty of teaching about endgames, middlegame planning, and I can also look over your games with analysis or help you build an opening repertoire based on your playing style.

My absolute best student is Robert from the UK. In just 1 full year of my coaching, he went from 1500 to a full expert level player. NOTE that I did not give him any homework, rather I worked on his greatest weakness after our first meeting and turned it into a strength. He is @theenglishmuon on chess.com

Here are a couple of really nice victories against strong and titled players in Standard time controls!

Below are the testimonies from my students:

@jonathanmohr

Great lessons! I improved at my mid- and endgame strategies a lot and I only had 2 months of training! It was a lot of fun happy.png

@anathema_512

Great Coach! Matt identifies your playing style and the sessions with him are then designed to enhance your strengths while also working on your weaknesses. The classes are fun and Matt works with you more like a friend than a coach. happy.png

@unc_the_awesome

I began lessons with SL0M about a month ago and have enjoyed every minute! He’s prepared for every lesson and explains everything very simply while challenging me. Our work on endgames has been very profitable. I’m excited to learn more each lesson and happy to have such a knowledgeable and kind teacher!

Other experiences

I provide chess commentary for the country "Bosnia" on twitch and I enjoy making friends and supporting their very strong team play against the world's best teams such as Russia and Ukraine.

Best skills

I make sure my lessons are always interactive and have the students learn by doing when I show them new material even in game analysis!

Teaching with patience and kindness in mind to not rush through the important details is key to my coaching.

I found for seeing the best results for my students is to first identify their greatest weakness and make that their strength.

By doing just that and focusing my lessons I create on that weakness my student and I as a team see very great results faster and greater than we expect!

Teaching methodology

I create lessons that are tailored to improve their specific weaknesses. I try to make all my lessons interactive and engaging while at the same time challenging to push them over the progress barriers of their chess skills.

Getting over the first progress(rating) barriers can be the hardest one because you do not likely have a structured approach to getting any better on your own. The primary goal for my lessons is to overcome and get past that barrier. My best student Robert from the UK was key proof that this is the correct way to go about chess improvement!

If the student shows an interest in long-term coaching with me I will even collaborate with my strong GM/IM/FM titled friends to help you achieve your goals! No extra payment required for them!
