Victory Day is a celebration of the victory of the Red Army and the Soviet people over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. It was established by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on May 8, 1945 and is celebrated annually on May 9. In 1945-1947 and since 1965, Victory Day was a non—working holiday. May 9 is one of the state holidays and days of military glory of Russia.
