New players should have a trial period of inidvidual games (no major tournament entrry allowed)

# 40 "also if they wait three days and then cheat theyll be caught and seriously have no life"

Cheaters have no life anyhow. They will use the trial period to lose most of their games and get a rating of ~900 and then play in tournaments to mess up the ratings even more.
Lamalord : the engine abuse issue is one of the biggest issues for me in online chess right now. On another site I cannot bear playing 5 min anymore. I can only enjoy 3 min. Didn't we play on ICC recently btw ?!

Here I do risk playing longer time limits and making greater time investments. I feel although the create topic has that warning - sensible caveats eg threads which try and identify prophylactical solutions should be tolerated eg this thread. The site can evolve to minimise the engine issues further IMHO.
#38 Wouldn't the 50-100 game grace period also indicate ones true rating as an extra benefit to this rule in theory? If one cheats during those rated games wouldn't they be detected? Serious question. So if you play your first 50 and achieve a 1600 rating then obviously somethings up if hes in tourneys crushing Ferrari. I think its a great idea. There will always be cheating but if you can weed out at least a fraction of them then I say why not? In real life there's usually always some form of qualification one must have to enter tournaments. Why not here? Just my 2 cents.
#44 - yes surely playing strength mismatch analysis can then become a more potent engine abuser eviction tool -I agree.
Well I believe we've both made our points here and in an effort to avoid arguing for the sake of arguing I think I'll leave it at that.

Don't yell at me for this but, I think that someone tried to ask the same thing but it wasn't implemented. I'm not sure though.
My opion to cheaters:

There is no money involved? And it is just for fun..so i do not mind my rating - i can also enjoy playing vs. an engine..

Where is the problem? :) Also i can understand, that you do not like it.
I haven't read every post in this thread, so sorry if someone has suggested this:

Could there maybe be tournaments for the sole purpose of getting people past their required X amount of rated games? Then once you have all of your required games in, you can play in the rest of the tournaments. This seems pretty convoluted and I'm the one saying it.

The main drawback I see is that you'll see threads like these anyway by other people complaining about cheaters in those newbie-tournaments, but maybe I'm wrong. After you got in your rated games, you wouldn't have to play in the newbie tournaments (or maybe not even be allowed to)
Tournaments are attractive to new players. Lichess shouldn't change its open policy and make new signups jump through hoops before they can join random hourly tournaments. However, I strongly agree with a required amount of games (20?) before being able to enter an important tournament (Daily, Weekly, Monthly). Having the goal of "qualifying" for the important ones might even motivate some fresh signups.
