A good word for those (horribly exasperating) puzzles!

Fairly often, a puzzle fails you towards the end of an obviously winning line. You know - when you win a queen but could have mated in 2.
Very annoying, especially when you can't immediately see the best line. But... it does keep you on your toes and I would like to get better so I don't miss mates in one (we've all done that)

I think it's a good discipline - I just wish I'd get *some* recognition from that damn computer..

I agree with you. Just today I "failed" a puzzle because I opted for a forced mate in 2, instead of the mate in 1 that was in the position (admittedly, the mate in 1 is better than the mate in 2, but as you point out, failing the puzzle altogether seems harsh).
