You can creat a thematic tournament, but I don't think Lichess will allow seek from position, because it is not possible to know if the position is equal. Another problem would be to implement in a nice way an overview of the starting position in the lobby.
Yes that is exactly what I would like as well.
I think it would be possible to do it via eco codes not by setting up a position.
Games should be casual by default (as you would want to play several games with the same side in the chosen position) and instead of casual/rated the eco code could be shown.
Hovering that eco the board could pop up showing the name of the opening as well.
Auto pairings would be possible like this as well even if not very likely to be fast.
But I would not mind to wait a long time.
When I do opening preparation I just do not want to play other stuff.
So most of the time I don't play at all. This would be a beautiful thing to fill in a game every now and then.
