Chess.com Announces its own Crazyhouse World Championship

The title says it all.

What to do?

Well, first of all, my vision of a zh WC differs from chess.com's. I think that one tournament is far too random - any given player can under- or overperform on any given day.

However, I can't compete with chess.com. Even though I was voted the most popular guy at my high school (LOL just kidding), I don't hold a candle to chess.com's popularity. Not only that, but chess.com is offering a higher prize pool; although it should be noted that my prize pool distribution promises to give some money to the "non-contenders," so to speak, while chess.com offers zilch for anyone outside of 10th place.

Benefits of FV's zh WC:

1) (IMO obviously) Better format, less random.

2) Better prize pool distribution.

3) Played on lichess, not on chess.com (@NobodyReally might have something to say about that :P).

4) Very reliable cheat detection.

Benefits of chess.com's zh WC:

1) Larger prize pool.

2) More popular.

It's up to you guys if I should continue with this WC or not.
Of course you should continue it. Chess.com's version is just a 15 round swiss tournament with the top 100 players. This is a much longer elimination style tournament, a lot more suited for a championship.
Also lichess is superior to chess.com in so many ways.
Yeah...I was thinking the same thing. I'm very resilient, but I would feel a bit discouraged if people were to tell me to call it quits.

I think people wouldn't mind having two WCs anyway. More money for everyone :).

Hey @KyleLegion , can you do me a favor and send out some PMs on my behalf concerning this topic? I'm a bit busy nowadays and would appreciate any help. If I start PMing people, I want to do a good job at it and not miss out anyone, so that's like a 2+ hour process.

Thank you, my friend, for your support.
Hey Vishy, what do you think about joining forces with the chess.com team on this instead of vying against each other? I'd be happy to put you in touch with Danny Rensch if you'd like.

If not, that's perfectly understandable; this could be an awesome event in its own right on lichess, if that's what you prefer. But I would suggest postponing this tournament for a few months so as not to compete with chess.com for players and attention.
Hey @crosky

Of course I have no problem joining forces with chess.com, and I'm not vying against anyone :P.

The thing is, though, that my vision of a WC is definitely not a one-time tournament. I don't know if Danny would agree to a long, two-month tournament type of deal.

I'm still waiting for developments anyway and that's why I'm waiting a bit.
Sorry @FischyVishy I'm quite busy myself and don't have time for that. I know it's very difficult to organize an event like this. Few players seem to even follow the discussion.
Hey, guys after bitchess stopped organizing saturday tournaments I have some feeling like zh died completely lol. We should creat some kind of an event as early as possible. I havent heard before about chess.com zh WC, when does that start and how to join it? Why do we worry about chess.com bussiness, we can have 2 WCs.
Keep the lichess world championship for sure. I don't care if FICS or ICC had a zh championship as well. As long as the lichess zh community continues to thrive, this event will be great.
@FischyVishy I had a few spare time and so, since Kyle said he can't, I've PMed the over 2000 zh rated guys in our group concerning this topic.

Hopefully the under 2000 will forgive me.

And hopefully some of those notorious players out there will share their thoughts here.

Besides, I've noticed some excellent names are missing, maybe later (quite busy atm) I'll send them an invite to join the event.
oh yeah what happened to the BitChess saturday events? i kept looking for the zh madness but it wasn't there! and about the zh world championship on lichess, i definitely think you should keep it.
