Atomic Chess! :-D

Thanks, Happy0. Any chance you're interested in implementing Kriegspiel?
#13 I am bit confused - so there is no need to move the king in check?
Maybe as feature then, turn off the red check highlighting?
there is and there isn't...

Since the goal of atomic chess is to kill the king, you do generally still have to respond to check because you will lose your king on the next turn if you don't. Hence why you still want the red check highlighting!

However, unlike in standard chess, it isn't illegal to make another move if you are in check. Thus, if you have a win immediately following their check, then they didn't save themselves by checking your king. Does that make sense?

Now, here's the question I have. Is it an "illegal move" to not win? I had a won game but I was actually playing an inferior move. I promoted a pawn and he check forked my new queen and my king with his rook. I had a win with the queen, but since I forgot the fact you can't save yourself from a loss with check. I tried to take the rook. However, it wouldn't let me. Is that expected behavior, or is that a bug?

@static - good point - just had a game where the final check "counted" - I was thinking I could make a pawn move ("since checks don't count"), but it shows me as mated. I guess the idea being I don't have an immediate win and he wins next move, so it is mate.

That's a good point, #15. I have been toying with the idea of enforcing a winning move through exploding a king when possible (or perhaps just when in check). It feels a bit like unfairly guiding a player to mate, but I need to give it a bit more thought.

A reminder to those who did not see Thibault's post on page one, the rule set we're going by can be found here: http://www.freechess.org/Help/HelpFiles/atomic.html . Point 5 might clear up some of the confusion around when ignoring check is permitted.

FAQ post: http://en.lichess.org/qa/150/what-is-atomic-rating

Atomic chess got a lot of forced moves. I'm still thinking how to get pass trought some hard openings. The whites got so much advantage that i suposed that counter a check with a mate could be the only solution to some strong openings.

Need to think a lot more, though.
the three eyed fish logo on the atomic chess page ,may be a copy right infringement from the simpsons...its cool though exposure to atomic chess ...may give you three eyes syndrome...lol
Hello, Lichess Team. Please remove option to choose color in rated variant games. It is very annoying when some people always play as white in atomic chess (having very big advantage every time). And then they just refuse rematches, and create new game (again as white player). After all some of those unfair players are showing in top ten list. Just leave this option only for casual games.
